Progress on our Westmorland & Furness grant-supported projects

We’ve got an exciting year ahead!

SENS and Staveley with Ings Parish Council in partnership were successful in securing funding from Westmorland and Furness Council under their Climate and Nature Partnership. The overall focus is on the environment and biodiversity, with the aim of fast forwarding a number of the top priorities in the Staveley with Ings Community Plan.

The projects started on 1 March 2024 and will run for 12 months. In the first few months, we have:

  • cleaned the surface of the new space created at Alec Row and installed two picnic tables and a bench.

  • planted trees and shrubs at the entrance to Staveley from Windermere – and invited Ings to put forward a similar project
Started the community composting project, based at Staveley Primary School.

  • continued to hold the popular Pop Up and Skills Cafe – a sociable space for help with repairs.

  • held 2 initial drop in sessions with young people to start discussing their ideas – this will be followed up by a 6 week programme through the summer term to develop these ideas and explore possible sources of longer term funding.

  • provided insurance for the Staveley community ebike scheme
Begun to explore with the community possible eco-friendly ways of getting around the village in addition to the Ebikes.

  • developed communications across the parish, initially through websites and social media, with improvements to noticeboards also planned.

We look forward to sharing more progress with you as we continue through the year.
