Members of SENS and welcomed visitors enjoyed a fascinating visit to Holme House Farm on Saturday 7 June, where they learned about the nature friendly co-housing project being developed on the site and the work being undertaken to enhance local biodiversity.
Guests had the opportunity to explore the twelve-acre farm, meet the families behind the project and hear about their vision for creating a sustainable community.
Holme House Farm is owned by a group of five families who have acquired the land with the aim of building individually designed homes within a shared community setting. The site includes a central area for housing, surrounded by land that is being carefully managed to support wildlife and improve habitats.
During the tour, visitors were shown a range of ongoing projects and enjoyed demonstrations of wildlife monitoring work. They also learned about the farm’s approach to woodland management, timber use and traditional skills, all aimed at reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainable living.

We really enjoyed visiting the community at Holme House. It was brilliant to see all the stages of development, and we especially liked how the houses all have their own style.
The community was very welcoming and it was inspiring to see how they were facilitating living and building together. My children were very impressed by the idea of families living in community.
We learnt a lot about the challenges they have faced with their individual builds, how they have overcome them and what they would do differently again. It was wonderful to see the development of their gardens and shared vegetable growing area.
